Shell Ball

Beech, quahog shells, photocopy, watercolor, 13” round, 1999

Mary Louise Geering was born in Niagara Falls, NY.  The artist received her MFA in Sculpture from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1990 and furthered her studies at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.  She has lived in Brooklyn for the last twenty-five years and has exhibited her work widely throughout the United States.  Her charged hybrid objects often employ dense, intricate surface patterns and textures to blanket natural forms.  These disparate combinations elicit a subconscious connection by the viewer and illuminate a potential resolution of conflicting ideas.  The artist received a Gottlieb Foundation Grant in 2015.
