MISSION
SPEEDWELL promotes the creative work of women who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to their artistic practice; we support women of all races, ethnicities, sexualities, gender identities, classes, and abilities through exhibitions, residencies, publications, and documentaries.
VISION
We seek to redress gender inequities of the art world by providing financial support and publishing opportunities to mid to late career women artist who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to their work.
SPEEDWELL is located in Portland, Maine, which is traditional territory of the Wabanaki Confederacy including the Abenaki, Micmac, Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, and Maliseet Nations.
We acknowledge the painful history of colonialization, genocide, and forced removal from this territory and recognize that we exist on this land because of the stewardship of both ancestral and contemporary Indigenous individuals and nations.
